Madrid Masters: Impressive Griekspoor stuns Rune to move into last 16

Tallon Griekspoor, the No 24 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Madrid Masters by defeating Dane Holger Rune, the No 11 seed, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at the Caja Magica.
It was an impressive performance from the Dutchman, who took advantage of a somewhat sluggish Rune display to earn a well-deserved win.
With it, Griekspoor clinches his first top-20 win at a Masters 1000 event.
Rune was likely suffering from the effects of his exploits against Navone in the previous round, where he came through a three-set thriller to earn his place in the round of 32.
But take nothing away from Griekspoor, who was dialled in from the start.
A single break was enough to take the opening set for the world No 25, before Rune struck back in the second with a sole break of his own to force a decider.
The third set was again won by single break, with the Dutchman clinching it to deny Rune the prospect of another late fightback.
Griekspoor, ranked No 25, will play the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 7 seed, and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 27 seed, next.
The Dutchman edged out Japanese Taro Daniel (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, Rune, ranked No 12, edged out Argentinian Mariano Navone (5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-4).
